One Sixth

To this!

I started making this blanket a few weeks ago now. It's very simple, but very large! I have never made a quilt before, and certainly never made anything this big. This is one sixth of the whole blanket, so I've got quite a way to go. Will I finish it before Winter? Hmmm... not too sure about that! I love it though. The colours, the hearts, the cute little squares. It is messy (be gentle with me, I'm still a beginner) but I don't really mind because it's rustic. (Well, that's what I'm telling myself anyway!)

The pattern is from Happy Yellow Hearts, and you can find it here. I am using Boyes own brand DK yarn. Cheap and cheerful!

I hope you all had a fab weekend.

  5. Missy, thank you very much! I thought it was a great pattern because it's just little squares. Even I can manage little squares! Thank you for the encouragement x

Annaboo - thanks! It was just those precise things that made me want to make it.x

Helen - I didn't do the pattern unfortunately, I wish I was clever like that! There's a linky to the pattern in the post if you'd like to see it :)

Yiota - thank you! It's very cheerful, I think. It makes me smile to look at it! I am looking forward to sinishing it and seeing the whole thing in all its glory!

  7. It's adorable..I love the heart shape! I can't wait to see the whole blanket when it is finished..it sounds like it is going to be a good sized one. How long does it take to do each square? I seriously need to learn how to crochet.. :)

  8. Miss Tea, I'm sure blanket is lovely, and will be great when it's finished! I have a long way to go with mine and I hope it's finished in time for the cold weather. I would love to see yours, I'm sure it's beautiful!

Magie, thank you very much! It's going to be hunka munka when it's finished, that one big sixth is pretty big already, so when it's finished and I've done the edging all the way round it'll be huge! It takes less than five minutes to make each square, including weaving the ends in. So really, it's pretty easy and quick. But to give you an idea, the whole blanket requires about 150 little squares each of the red and blue, and at least twice that in the cream! It's an awful lot, and a heck of a lot of sewing too :) Also, crochet is so relaxing, and also really easy to pick up, I think. You should give it a go! x

  9. I absolutely adore the country charm, quilted feel of this crocheted afghan. I did one in a star pattern once. Takes a long time to join all those squares and it gets so heavy after a while. But in the end, it is totally worth it. Lookin' forward to your final product. =)

  12. K, it's already pretty big and that's only a bit of it! I have hilarious mental images of myself trying to wrangle the six big squares together and then crochet around the lot! Glad you like the site, that's fab. I hope you find lots of lovely things to make on there!

LDB, go for it! If I can do it then anyone can, seriously :D And thank you. I have a real thing for hearts at the moment x

  16. Catherine, thank you! I'm sure you wouldn't make a mess :)

Deidre, thank you! I haven't tried knitting for years. I prefer to have a dry run with my mother present because she is a very talented knitter. I find crochet easier to grasp. I hope to make more blankets one day!

Jo, thank you, that's a lovely thing to say. I showed my workmates a photo yesterday and they were all so nice about it too! All these lovely comments have been very encouraging :) x
